Understanding Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is both art and science, harnessing the naturally extracted volatile organic compounds from plants for their aromatic, energetic and chemical properties. The aim is to help balance, harmonize and promote the health of the whole terrain (body, mind and spirit) and, thereby, unifying physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process.

My Approach

I practice a form of holistic aromatherapy, which addresses the whole person with a focus on empathy, personal care, prevention, health and wellbeing. It is a supportive, complementary approach and does not aim to cure any medical conditions. I believe in working as a team to support the whole you and your concerns. I use only organic and ethically sourced essential oils from suppliers who are transparent and respectful of their growers. I believe we are all globally connected in the goal of wellbeing: from the growers of the aromatic plants, to the distillers that transform the plant essences into essential oils, to the suppliers who pass them on to me so I may support you. It is a beautiful, fragile chain that we must revere and preserve. In the end, it's about creating community, connections and stories that lift us all.

How Does a Consultation Work

I offer both in-person and remote consultations using Skype or FaceTime. An initial consultation is a 1 hour private session, which includes a thorough understanding of your needs, discussing what you hope to achieve, followed by a customized plan to address your concerns. With this information, I will create your unique aromatherapy blend(s) which you will receive within a week, together with written information about usage and guidelines for your blend(s). Blends may take many forms, including a lotion/butter, salve, bath salt, inhaler, diffuser blend, or massage oil.

The initial consultation is $65 plus the cost of the blend(s) . Blends range between $10-40, depending on type and size of preparation and materials. Consequent follow-up consultations (for repeat customers only) are 30 minute sessions to check in on how your blend is working for you and what progress we are making on your customized plan. Here too, new blends are priced separately.

Please note that an aromatherapy consultation is not a replacement for professional health care or legal guidance. I am not a licensed medical or psychological professional. All consultation sessions are conducted in strictest confidentiality and will not be shared with anyone.

About Me

As a certified aromatherapist, I am professionally trained in the external, safe, therapeutic use of essential oils. I have completed over 330 documented hours of formal aromatherapy education, which includes anatomy & physiology, plant constituent chemistry, aromatic blending, optimal application methods, energetic considerations, safe usage guidelines, drug interactions and at-risk populations such as children, pregnant women and the elderly.  Additionally, I have completed 20 supervised case studies and wrote my research paper on the subject of The Sustainability of Essential Oils in a Growing Global Marketplace.

I completed my certification studies at the world-renowned Aromahead Institute, School of Essential Oil Studies under the guidance of Andrea Butje, as well as further chemistry classes at the world-renowned Tisserand Institute with courses from Dr. E. Joy Bowles, PhD, Bsc Hons. I believe education is a journey and I will continue to pursue knowledge, as there is always so much to learn. Importantly, I believe that education is the basis on which successful and safe practice is built.
